Microsoft scam. Please read

this comes from a close friend : I got a scam call today. He hung up when I told him I was recording the call for police. Here is what happened...spread the word because people less bitchy than me might fall for it:

This afternoon a person of mid-eastern accent called claiming to be from Microsoft. Caller ID said "out of area." He said, "is this the owner of the microsoft computer?"

I said yes. He went on to say my computer is badly infected with "Mal-a-ware"and "wiruses" and we must act quickly to stop this threat. "Please to take down this error code and we can proceed."

I said, sure...but I should tell you I am recording the call for police. As long as you are okay with me recording the call, go ahead and give me your little error code." There was a little pause and he goes "8-8-8, C as in Charlie, D as in Delta"... another pause, and he hung up.

Microsoft will never call you. Please tell any not-so-computer-savvy folks if they get this kind of call to hang up. Or they can tease the jack-wagon like I did. Either way, don't give personal info about your accounts or agree to any screen share requests with people if you did not initiate a call to tech support.

My comment:
Ok people, listen up! this is the real deal of a scam. those of you who really know me, i am a tech geek, who else writes a guide on how to keep your computer clean and virus free? any hooo, please pass this along to everyone. for it to happen to someone in abilene, ks where else is it happening??
